Special Precautions
Potential for Eye Injury or Contamination: Patients should be instructed to avoid allowing the tip of the dispensing container to contact the eye or surrounding structures in order to avoid eye injury and contamination of the eye drops.
Keep bottle tightly closed when not in use.
Discard the product after first opening 4 weeks.
Contact Lens Use: Patients should be advised not to wear a contact lens if their eye is red.
LASTACAFT should not be used to treat contact lensā€related irritation.
LASTACAFT should not be instilled while wearing contact lenses. Remove contact lenses prior to instillation of LASTACAFT. The preservative in LASTACAFT, benzalkonium chloride, may be absorbed by and cause discoloration of soft contact lenses. Patients wearing soft (hydrophilic) contact lenses should be instructed to remove contact lenses before administration of the drug and wait at least 10 minutes after instilling LASTACAFT before reinserting soft contact lenses.
Topical Ophthalmic Use Only: LASTACAFT is for topical ophthalmic use only.
Effects on Ability to Drive and Use Machines: LASTACAFT may cause transient blurring of vision upon instillation and/or drowsiness which may impair the ability to drive or operate machines. The patient should wait until these symptoms have cleared before driving or using machinery.
Use in Children:
Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients below the age of 2 years have not been established.
Use in Elderly: No overall differences in safety or effectiveness were observed between elderly and younger subjects.
