Indications/Uses
Symptoms associated w/ seasonal, perennial allergic rhinitis, & chronic urticaria.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn ≥12 yr 1 tab once daily. Childn 6-11 yr ½ tab once daily. Renal impairment: Adult & childn ≥12 yr Severe (CrCl 10-30 mL/min) ½ tab twice wkly (administer once every 3-4 days), moderate (CrCl 30-50 mL/min) ½ tab once every other day, mild (CrCl 50-80 mL/min) ½ tab once daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to levocetirizine or cetirizine. End-stage renal disease (CrCl <10 mL/min) or undergoing hemodialysis. Renal impairment in childn 6 mth to 11 yr.
Special Precautions
Avoid concomitant use w/ alcohol or other CNS depressants. Patients w/ predisposing factors of urinary retention (eg, spinal cord lesion, prostatic hyperplasia); discontinue if urinary retention occurs. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Constipation, diarrhea, painful teething; asthenia, somnolence; nasopharyngitis, pharyngitis, xerostomia; fatigue, fever.
Drug Interactions
Increased AUC & t½, & decreased clearance of cetirizine w/ ritonavir. Decreased clearance of cetirizine w/ theophylline.
