For supportive treatment in acute and chronic hepatitis, hepatic cirrhosis, toxic - metabolic liver damage eg. Fatty liver, alcohol - or drug-induced liver damage, poisoning.
1 capsule three times daily before meals.

Silymarin may cause an allergic reaction in people who are sensitive to the Asteraceae/Compositae family. Members of this family include ragweed, chrysanthemums, marigolds, daisies, and many others. If the patient has allergies, be sure to check with healthcare provider before taking milk thistle.
Extracts from milk thistle plant might act like estrogen. If the patient has any condition that might be made worse by exposure to estrogen, don't use these extracts.

Brief stomach upset and mild allergies, but no serious side effects, have been reported. Silymarin may intensify the effects of drugs that decrease blood sugar levels (hypoglycemic drugs).
Women who have hormone-sensitive condition (such as breast cancer, uterine cancer, ovarian cancer, endometriosis and uterine fibroids) should avoid the above-ground part of milk thistle.
Moderate interaction: Increase the effect and side effect of these medicine amitriptyline, diazepam, zileuton, celecoxib, diclofenac, fuvastatin, glipizide, ibuprofen, irbesartan, losartan, phenytoin, piroxicam, tamoxifen, tolbutamide, torsemide, warfarin, and others.
Increase or decrease how well some of these medicine work: acetaminophen, atorvastatin, diazepam, digoxin, entacapone, estrogen, irinotecan, lamotrigine, lorazepam, meprobamate, morphine, oxazepam, and others.
Minor interaction: Estrogen interacts with milk thistle: conjugated equine estrogen, ethinyl estradiol, estradiol and others.
Medications used for lowering cholesterol interacts with milk thistle: Atorvastatin, fuvastatin, lovastatin, pravastatin and rosuvastatin.
