Losartan K
HTN, alone or in combination w/ other antihypertensive agents including diuretics; diabetic nephropathy w/ an elevated serum creatinine & proteinuria in patients w/ type 2 diabetes & a history of HTN. Reduces risk of CV death, stroke & MI in patients w/ HTN & left ventricular hypertrophy.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult HTN 50 mg once daily. Depletion of intravascular vol or hepatic impairment 25 mg. Maintenance: 25-100 mg as single or in 2 divided doses daily. HTN w/ left ventricular hypertrophy 50 mg once daily, in combination w/ hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg daily &/or losartan dose increased to 100 mg once daily followed by an increase in hydrochlorothiazide to 25 mg once daily. Nephropathy in type 2 diabetic patients w/ proteinuria 50 mg once daily, up to 100 mg once daily. May be combined w/ insulin & other hypoglycemic agents. Childn weighing ≥20 to <50 kg 25 mg once daily, may be increased to a max of 50 mg once daily, >50 kg 50 mg once daily, may be increased to a max of 100 mg once daily.
May be taken with or without food.
Hypersensitivity. 2nd & 3rd trimesters of pregnancy.
Special Precautions
Hypotension & electrolyte or fluid imbalance. Liver & renal impairment. 1st trimester of pregnancy. Lactation. Childn w/ GFR <30 mL/min/1.73 m2 or w/ hepatic impairment. Neonates.
Adverse Reactions
Cough, nasal congestion, pharyngitis, sinus disorders, upper resp infection; dizziness, headache, insomnia, migraine, dysgeusia; back pain, muscle cramps, myalgia, arthralgia; diarrhea, dyspepsia, nausea, vomiting, hepatitis, liver function abnormalities; palpitation, tachycardia, hypotension; abdominal & chest pain, asthenia, edema, fever; urticaria, pruritus, erythroderma; anemia, thrombocytopenia; hypersensitivity.
Drug Interactions
Risk of hyperkalemia w/ K supplements, K-sparing diuretics or K-containing salt substitutes. Reduced hypotensive effects w/ NSAIDs including selective COX-2 inhibitors. Reduces lithium excretion in co-administration w/ lithium salts.

C09CA01 - losartan ; Belongs to the class of angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs). Used in the treatment of cardiovascular disease.
