Metoprolol tartrate
Indications/Uses
High BP (arterial HTN). CHD (angina pectoris), functional CV symptoms (hyperkinetic heart syndrome), rapid forms of cardiac irregularity (tachycardiac arrhythmia), prophylactic migraine therapy, acute & long-term therapy during & after MI.
Dosage/Direction for Use
High BP 50-100 mg (-200 mg) daily. CHD (50-) 100-200 mg daily. Functional angiocardiopathy 50-100 mg (-200 mg) daily. Rapid forms of CV irregularities, prophylactic migraine therapy 100-200 mg daily. Long-term therapy after MI Maintenance: 100-200 mg daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
2nd & 3rd degree AV block, high grade SA block, shock, uncontrolled heart failure, bradycardia, pathologically low BP, metabolic acidosis, bronchial hyperreactivity.
Special Precautions
Diabetic patients w/ heavily fluctuating blood sugar values & in strict fasting, pheochromocytoma, restricted hepatic function. Pregnancy, lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Tiredness, GI disturbances, dizziness, cold extremities.
Drug Interactions
MAOIs, Ca antagonists, antiarrhythmics.
