Gentamicin sulfate
Indications/Uses
UTI including gonorrhoea, resp tract infections, GIT infections & infections due to susceptible strains of gm -ve bacteria.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 2-4 mL/day by IM inj. Childn 1-2 mL/day in divided doses.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ renal impairment, myasthenia gravis. Pregnancy. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Ototoxicity, nephrotoxicity (ensure adequate hydration) neuromuscular blockade, superinfection.
Drug Interactions
Increased nephrotoxicity w/ cephalosporins, amphotericin, cyclosporin, mannitol, plasma substitutes. Increased ototoxicity w/ frusemide, other aminoglycosides. Prolongs effects of neuromuscular-blocking drugs & anesth.
