Indications/Uses
Severe HTN.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn >12 yr Initially 5 mg daily in single or divided doses. Max: 100 mg/day. Childn <12 yr Initially 0.2 mg/kg body wt as single dose. Max: 50 mg daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Pheochromocytoma.
Special Precautions
Recent MI; pulmonary HTN; angina pectoris; chronic CHF; renal failure.
Adverse Reactions
Reflex tachycardia; fluid retention w/ wt gain; edema; reversible hypertrichosis; pericardial effusion & tamponade. Infrequent, nausea; gynecomastia; breast tenderness; polymenorrhea; allergic skin rashes; thrombocytopenia.
Drug Interactions
Antihypertensive effect enhanced by other hypotensives. Guanethidine or bethanidine may cause severe orthostatic hypotension.

C02DC01 - minoxidil ; Belongs to the class of pyrimidine derivative agents acting on arteriolar smooth muscle. Used in the treatment of hypertension.
