Isosorbide-5-mononitrate
Indications/Uses
Prophylactic treatment of angina pectoris.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Initial dose ¼ tab bid on the 1st day then ≥½ tab bid for the next 2 days. Usual dose: 1 tab bid w/ 7-hr interval.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Nitrates, PDE-5 inhibitors (ie, sildenafil, tadalafil, vardenafil). Angle-closure glaucoma, head trauma or cerebral hemorrhage, severe anemia.
Special Precautions
Vol depletion, hypotension, right ventricular infarctions; ethanol; tolerance & cross-tolerance to nitrates. Antianginal & dynamic effect may occur during prolonged therapy. Postural-hypotension, weakness, dizziness or syncope may occur.
Adverse Reactions
Abnormal heart sound, abnormal Q wave, aggravated angina pectoris, arrhythmia, atrial arrhythmia, atrial fibrillation, bradycardia. Dizziness, headache.
Drug Interactions
PDE-5 inhibitors, CYP3A4 inhibitors (eg, dasatinib) & inducers (eg, deferasirox). Increased effects of antihypertensives & rosiglitazone.
