Nevirapine
Indications/Uses
HIV-1 infection in combination w/ other antiretrovirals.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 200 mg once daily for the 1st 14 days, then 200 mg bid. Childn ≥8 yr 4 mg/kg body wt once daily for 14 days, then 4 mg/kg bid. Infant & childn 2 mth-8 yr 4 mg/kg body wt once daily for 14 days, then 7 mg/kg bid.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity.
Special Precautions
Hepatic or renal function impairment. Pregnancy & lactation. Intensive monitoring of patients during the 1st 12 wk of therapy.
Adverse Reactions
Severe & life-threatening rash or hepatotoxicity (discontinue). Hypersensitivity reactions, fever, nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, headache.
Drug Interactions
CYP3A inducers or inhibitors or drugs metabolized by CYP3A. Ketoconazole or hormonal contraceptives.
