Indications/Uses
Partial seizures w/ & w/o secondary generalized seizures in patients >12 yr w/ epilepsy & adjunct for treatment of partial seizures in ped patients 3-12 yr. Postherpetic neuralgia (PNH) & pain associated w/ diabetic neuropathy.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Epilepsy Adult & childn >12 yr Initially 300 mg tid. May be increased up to 1,800 mg/day. Childn 3-12 yr Initially 10-15 mg/kg/day in 3 divided doses, ≥5-12 yr 25-35 mg/kg/day in 3 divided doses, 3-4 yr 40 mg/kg/day in 3 divided doses. Adult Postherpetic neuralgia Initially 300 mg once daily on the 1st day, 300 mg bid on the 2nd day & 300 mg tid on the 3rd day. May be increased up to total daily dose of 1,800 mg in 3 divided dose. Diabetic neuropathy 900-3,600 mg daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity.
Special Precautions
Avoid abrupt w/drawal. Severe renal dysfunction. Caution in performing tasks which require mental alertness. Concomitant use w/ other sedative drugs. Childn 3-12 yr. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Peripheral edema, vasodilatation, abnormal gait, abnormality in thinking, amnesia, ataxia, depression, dizziness, drowsiness, emotional labiality, fatigue, headache, hostility.
Drug Interactions
Increase levels/effect of alcohol, azelastine, buprenophine, SSRI, zolpidem. Increased levels by doxylamine. Decreased effects by antacid, ketorolac, Mg salts, mefloquine, orlistat.
