Norfloxacin
Indications/Uses
Bacterial infections sensitive to norfloxacin.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Acute uncomplicated UTI 200 mg bid. Recurrent or complicated UTI 400 mg bid. Gonorrhea 800 mg single dose. GI infections 400 mg bid.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take 1 hr before or 2 hr after meals. Ensure adequate hydration. Do not take w/ dairy products.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to quinolones. Infants & prepubertal childn. Pregnancy, lactation.
Special Precautions
Liver disease. Renal impairment. Patients w/ CNS damage.
Adverse Reactions
GI distress, headache, dizziness, pruritus, myalgia, crystalluria, photosensitivity.
Drug Interactions
Antacids may reduce absorption. Probenecid reduces excretion. May potentiate effects of oral anticoagulant, phenytoin, theophylline.
