Dosage/Direction for Use
Empirical treatment of community-acquired pneumonia 500 mg once daily. Pneumonia 500 mg/day for 7-14 days. Chronic bronchitis 500 mg/day for 7 days. Sinusitis, skin & skin structure infections 500 mg/day for 10-14 days. UTI/pyelonephritis 250 mg/day for 10 days.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Ensure adequate fluid intake.
Contraindications
Allergy to quinolones. Epilepsy, history of tendon disorder related to fluoroquinolones, childn & adolescents, pregnancy & lactation.
Special Precautions
Severe renal impairment, known or suspected CNS disorders, history of photosensitivity, DM. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances, anoxia, bloody diarrhea, headache, dizziness/vertigo, drowsiness, insomnia, paresthesia, tremor, anxiety, agitation, confusion, convulsion, arthralgia, myalgia, tendon disorders/tendinitis (Achilles tendon), pruritus, rash, urticaria, bronchospasm/dyspnoea; increase in ALT/AST, bilirubin & serum creatinine; eosinophilia, leukopenia, neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, asthenia, fungal overgrowth, proliferation of other resistant microorganisms.
Drug Interactions
Antacid, sucralfate, metal cations, multivit, theophylline, fenbufen or similar NSAIDs, antidiabetic agents.
