Medroxyprogesterone acetate
Indications/Uses
Secondary amenorrhoea, functional uterine bleeding, endometriosis, menopausal vasomotor symptom, hormone replacement therapy.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Secondary amenorrhea 5-10 mg daily for 5-10 days. Abnormal uterine bleeding 5-10 mg daily for 5-10 days from Day 16-21 of menstrual cycle. Hormone replacement therapy 2.5-5 mg in combination w/ estrogen. Endometriosis 10 mg tid for 90 days.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Thrombophlebitis, thromboembolic disorders, cerebral apoplexy; liver dysfunction or disease; known or suspected malignancy of breast or genital organs; undiagnosed vag bleeding; pregnancy, missed abortion.
Special Precautions
Epilepsy, migraine, asthma, cardiac or renal dysfunction; history of mental depression; diabetes.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea; fatigue, depression; acne, hirsutism; breast tenderness, galactorrhea, amenorrhea & anovulation; decreased glucose tolerance; thromboembolic phenomena; anaphylaxis; corticoid-like activity (high doses).
