Indications/Uses
Pneumonia & nosocomial pneumonias, UTI; intra-abdominal, gynecological, skin & skin structure infections; meningitis. As monotherapy or in combination w/ antiviral or antifungal agents in febrile neutropenia.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Pneumonia, UTI, gynecological, skin & skin structure infections 500 mg IV. Nosocomial pneumonias, peritonitis, presumed infection in febrile neutropenic patients, septicemia 1 g. Meningitis 2 g. Childn >3 mth to 12 yr 10-20 mg/kg, >50 kg Adult dose. Febrile neutropenic patient 20 mg/kg. Meningitis 40 mg/kg. All doses to be given 8 hrly.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity.
Special Precautions
History of hypersensitivity to carbapenems & other β-lactams, penicillins & cephalosporins. Hepatic disease, GI complaints (pseudomembranous colitis). Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Local IV inj site reactions, rash, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea & pseudomembranous colitis, increase serum conc of hepatic functions, headache, oral & vag candidosis.
Drug Interactions
Increased elimination t½ & plasma conc w/ probenecid.
