Sertraline HCl
Indications/Uses
Major depressive episodes.
Dosage/Direction for Use
50 mg/day. Max: 200 mg/day.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Concomitant MAOIs & pimozide.
Special Precautions
Hepatic impairment. Increased suicide risk in early stages of recovery. Akathisia/psychomotor restlessness may develop. Serotoninergic syndrome, changeover from SSRIs or other antidepressants. History of mania/hypomania & bleeding disorders. Unstable epilepsy & seizures, diabetes. Electric convulsive therapy. Avoid alcohol & abrupt discontinuation. May aggravate psychotic symptoms in schizophrenia. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy, lactation. Childn <18 yr. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Anorexia, wt loss, sexual disorders in male, insomnia, somnolence, agitation, anxiety, tremor, vertigo, movement disorders, paraesthesia, hypaesthesia, headache, blurred vision, chest pain, palpitations, vasodilation, yawning, nausea, xerostomia, diarrhoea/loose stool, dyspepsia, abdominal pain, vomiting, constipation, skin rash, menstruation disorder, diaphoresis, asthenia, fatigue.
Drug Interactions
MAOIs, other serotoninergics, lithium, sumatriptan, St. John's wort, diuretics, pimozide, warfarin, phenytoin, cimetidine, tolbutamide, drugs that affect platelet function (eg, anticoagulants, atypical antipsychotics & phenothiazines, most TCAs, salicylic acid derivatives, NSAIDs), class I antiarrhythmics (eg, propafenone, flecainide).
