Indications/Uses
Moderate to severe bacterial infections in combination w/ other parenteral β-lactams eg, ampicillin.
Dosage/Direction for Use
In combination w/ other β-lactam 0.5-1 g every 6, 8, or 12 hr. Max: 4 g/day. Alone in multidrug resistant or life-threatening Acinetobacter baumanii infection 6 g/day in divided dose. Ped patients 50 mg/kg/day every 6, 8, 12 hr. Max: 80 mg/kg/day.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity.
Special Precautions
Na-restricted patients.
Adverse Reactions
Fungal infection of mucosa membrane/stomatitis, pseudomembranous colitis, hypersensitivity, diarrhea, thrombophlebitis & administration site pain, eosinophilia, dizziness.
Drug Interactions
Aminoglycosides. Increased serum t½ w/ probenecid.
