Contents
Cephalexin monohydrate
Indications/Uses
Resp tract infections, otitis media, skin & soft tissue infections, osteomyelitis, GIT infections, uncomplicated gonorrhoeal infections. Septicemia & some cases of bacterial endocarditis & cholecystitis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
1-2 cap qid. Childn 25-50 mg/kg body wt in 4 divided doses.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/ meals to reduce GI discomfort.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins.
Special Precautions
Penicillin-sensitive patients. Marked renal impairment.
Adverse Reactions
Diarrhea, hypersensitivity reactions, eosinophilia, genital & oral candidiasis, phlebitis. Rarely, pseudomembranous colitis, anaphylaxis, neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, leucopenia.
Drug Interactions
Bacteriostatic antibiotics may reduce cephalosporin effectiveness. Probenecid may increase & prolong cephalosporin plasma levels & toxicity.
