Sulfinpyrazone
Indications/Uses
Chronic gouty arthritis, intermittent gouty arthritis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Initially, 200-400 mg daily in 2 divided doses gradually increasing to full maintenance dose in 1 wk. Maintenance: 400 mg daily in 2 divided doses, may be increased to 800 mg daily or reduced to 200 mg daily.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take w/ meals or milk.
Contraindications
Active peptic ulcer, GI inflammation or ulceration. Hypersensitivity to phenylbutazone or other pyrazoles. Blood dyscrasias.
Special Precautions
Pregnancy. History of healed peptic ulcer. May precipitate urolithiasis & renal colic, ensure adequate fluid intake & alkalinization of urine. Renal impairment. Not for relief of acute attack of gout.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances, rash. Rarely, blood dyscrasias.
Drug Interactions
Sulfonamides, sulfonylurea, insulin. Salicylates. Coumarin-type anticoagulants.

M04AB02 - sulfinpyrazone ; Belongs to the class of preparations increasing uric acid excretion. Used in the treatment of gout.
