Indications/Uses
HIV-1 infection in combination w/ other antiretrovirals.
Dosage/Direction for Use
1 tab once daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Take consistently either always w/ or always w/o food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity; lactation.
Special Precautions
Risk factors for liver disease, lactic acidosis/severe hepatomegaly w/ steatosis, pronounced hepatotoxicity, HIV/HBV co-infection, renal impairment, history of pathologic bone fracture or risk of osteopenia. Fat redistribution, buffalo hump, immune reconstitution syndrome. Pregnancy. Childn <18 yr. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Mild to moderate GI events eg, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting & flatulence. Rash, headache, pain, depression & asthenia.
Drug Interactions
Didanosine; atazanavir, lopinavir/ritonavir; drugs that reduce renal function or compete for active tubular secretion may increase serum conc of tenofovir &/or other renally eliminated drugs eg, adefovir dipivoxil, cidofovir, acyclovir, valacyclovir, ganciclovir & valganciclovir.
