Atenolol
Indications/Uses
HTN, angina pectoris, dysrhythmia, MI.
Dosage/Direction for Use
HTN 50-100 mg/day in single or divided doses. Angina pectoris 100 mg/day in single or divided doses. Dysrhythmia 50-100 mg daily in single dose. MI 100 mg/day.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Presence of 2nd- or 3rd-degree heart block, cardiogenic shock. Bradycardia.
Special Precautions
Poor cardiac reserve, overt heart failure, COPD, asthma. Treatment should not be discontinued abruptly in ischaemic heart disease. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Cold extremities, muscular fatigue, bradycardia, skin rashes.
Drug Interactions
Verapamil, class I antiarrhythmics may increase risk of MI.
