Tetracycline HCl
Indications/Uses
Infections due to tetracycline-sensitive organisms.
Dosage/Direction for Use
250-500 mg qid.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take 1 hr before or 2 hr after meals w/ a full glass of water, in upright position. May be taken w/ meals to reduce GI discomfort.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Severe renal impairment. Pregnancy. Childn <12 yr.
Special Precautions
Liver impairment, myasthenia gravis. Lactation.
Adverse Reactions
GI distress, superinfections, hepatic & renal toxicity. Rarely, increased cranial pressure. May exacerbate existing SLE. Teeth discolouration & dental hypoplasia in childn.
Drug Interactions
Reduced absorption by antacids, milk. Hepatotoxic drugs. May interfere w/ actions of penicillins & OC. Potentiates anticoagulant effect.
