Thiamphenicol
Indications/Uses
Infections caused by gm -ve & gm +ve bacteria. UTI, GIT, biliary system, salmonella infections. Rickettsiosis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 1-2 cap 6-8 hrly.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take 1 hr before or 2 hr after meals.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Anemia. 3rd trimester of pregnancy & lactation.
Special Precautions
Prolonged treatment. Infants. G6PD deficiency. Renal or hepatic impairment. Blood studies should be done.
Adverse Reactions
Bone marrow depression, aplastic anemia, Gray syndrome in infants, GI distress, optic & peripheral neuritis.
Drug Interactions
Paracetamol may affect serum levels of chloramphenicol. Potentiates effects of oral anticoagulant, oral hypoglycemics, cyclophosphamide, phenytoin.
