Tramadol HCl
Indications/Uses
Moderate to severe pain.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Single dose for adult & adolescent >12 yr. Tramal cap 50-100 mg. Tramal Inj 1-2 Tramal 50 amp IM, slow IV, SC or IV infusion. Tramal Retard tab 100 mg bid. Max dose: 200 mg bid.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Retard tab: Swallow whole, do not chew/crush.
Contraindications
Acute intoxication w/ alcohol, hypnotics, analgesics, opioids or psychotropics, patients receiving MAOI & w/ epilepsy, narcotic w/drawal treatment.
Special Precautions
Opioid dependence, reduced level of consciousness of unclear origin, resp disorders, increased intracranial pressure. Patients known to suffer from convulsions. Pregnancy & lactation. On long-term use, possibility of tolerance, psychic & physical dependence. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery, especially if taken w/ alcohol.
Adverse Reactions
Dizziness, headache, somnolence, nausea, constipation, dry mouth, vomiting, sweating, fatigue.
Drug Interactions
Avoid concurrent administration w/ MAOIs. Co-medication w/ other centrally acting depressants eg, alcohol may potentiate CNS effects. Carbamazepine may reduce analgesic effect & duration of action. Co-medication w/ seizure threshold-lowering drugs (eg, SSRIs, TCAs, antipsychotics) may cause convulsions.
