Tranexamic acid
Indications/Uses
Prophylaxis & treatment of hemorrhage, following dental or oral surgery in patients w/ hemophilia.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & adolescent Pre-op 10 mg/kg body wt, administered immediately pre-op, then 25 mg/kg/dose orally tid-qid for 2-8 days. Patients unable to take oral medications Post-op 10 mg/kg tid-qid for 7-10 days. Administer IV at ≤100 mg/min.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Special Precautions
Regular ophth exam during long-term therapy. Moderate to severe renal impairment.
Adverse Reactions
Blurred vision or other changes in vision, hypotension, thrombosis or thromboembolism.
Drug Interactions
Penicillin.
