Hyoscine-N-butylbromide
Indications/Uses
GIT spasm, biliary & renal tract dyskinesia, peptic ulcer, gastroduodenitis, spastic constipation, pylorospasm, post-op vomiting & nausea.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Tab Adult & childn >6 yr 1-2 tab qid. Inj 1 amp SC, IM or IV several times daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Glaucoma, prostatic hypertrophy, functional stenoses in the GIT, tachycardia, megacolon, intestinal atony, paralytic ileus, asthma, myasthenia gravis, ulcerative colitis, hiatal hernia, serious or renal disease.
Special Precautions
Elderly, childn.
Adverse Reactions
Increased IOP, cycloplegia, mydriasis, dry mouth, blurred vision, flushing, urinary hesitancy & retention, tachycardia, palpitations, constipation, elevated body temp, CNS excitation, rash, vomiting, photophobia.
Drug Interactions
Anticholinergic activity may be increased by other parasympatholytics. Guanethidine, histamine & reserpine can antagonise the inhibitory effect of anticholinergics on gastric secretion. Antacids may impair absorption.
