Hyoscine butylbromide
GIT spasm, biliary & urinary tract dyskinesia. Antispasmodic in diagnostic & therapeutic procedures.
Dosage/Direction for Use
SC/IM/IV Adult & childn >12 yr 1-2 amp. Max: 5 amp daily. Childn <12 yr 0.3-0.6 mg/kg several times daily. Max: 1.5 mg/kg daily.
Myasthenia gravis, megacolon. Hypertrophy of the prostrate w/ urinary retention, mechanical stenosis of GIT, tachycardia, untreated narrow-angle glaucoma.
Special Precautions
Narrow-angle glaucoma, patients susceptible to intestinal urinary outlet obstructions.
Adverse Reactions
Xerostomia, tachycardia, urinary retention, allergic & skin reactions, visual disturbance.
Drug Interactions
Anticholinergic activity may be increased by other parasympatholytics. Guanethidine, histamine & reserpine can antagonize the inhibitory effect of anticholinergics on gastric acid secretion. Antacid may impair absorption.
