Simvastatin
Indications/Uses
Adjunct to diet for the reduction of elevated LDL cholesterol in patients w/ primary hypercholesterolemia & combined hypercholesterolemia & hypertriglyceridemia.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Initially 10-20 mg once daily. May be adjusted at 4-wk intervals up to max 80 mg/day. Maintenance: 5-80 mg once daily. All doses to be given in the evening.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Avoid excessive consumption (>1 L/day) of grapefruit juice.
Contraindications
Active liver disease or unexplained transaminase elevations. Pregnancy, lactation.
Special Precautions
Discontinue immediately in case of myopathy. History of liver disease. Monitor liver function. Avoid alcohol. Childn.
Adverse Reactions
Abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, flatulence, dyspepsia, nausea, vomiting, headache, asthenia, muscle cramps, myalgia & arthralgia.
Drug Interactions
Coumarin or indandione-derivative anticoagulants. Cyclosporin, gemfibrozil, niacin, azole-derivative antifungal (itraconazole, ketoconazole) or macrolide antibiotic.

C10AA01 - simvastatin ; Belongs to the class of HMG CoA reductase inhibitors. Used in the treatment of hyperlipidemia.
