Cefuroxime axetil
Indications/Uses
Infection of resp tract, ENT, GUT infections, skin & soft tissue; acute, uncomplicated gonococcal urethritis & cervicitis. Otitis media.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 250 mg bid. UTI 125 mg bid. Pneumonia 500 mg bid. Uncomplicated gonorrhoea 1 g as a single dose. Childn Most infections 10 mg/kg bid up to max 250 mg/day. Childn ≥2 yr w/ otitis media or w/ more severe infections 250 mg bid or 15 mg/kg bid, max: 500 mg/day.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take immediately after food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins.
Special Precautions
Anaphylactic reaction to penicillins.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances, occasionally pseudomembranous colitis; hypersensitivity reactions. Eosinophilia. Headache. Superinfection.
