Dosage/Direction for Use
Herpes simplex 200 mg 5 times daily or 4 hrly, doubled to 400 mg in severely immunocompromised. Suppression of Herpes simplex in adult 200 mg 4 hrly or 400 mg bid. Varicella & Herpes zoster 800 mg 5 times daily or 4 hrly, continued for 7 days.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/ meals to reduce GI discomfort.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity.
Special Precautions
Acute or chronic renal impairment.
Adverse Reactions
Skin rash, GI effect, hematological & encephalopathic changes.
Drug Interactions
Increases mean t½ & plasma conc w/ probenecid.
