Pediatric mortality from undernutrition is estimated at 2.7 million annually, contributing to 45% of all deaths in children.
The evaluation of nutritional status in children includes history, physical examination and anthropometric evaluation, laboratory and radiologic tests.
The goal of providing adequate supply of nutrients is to ensure that a child achieves his full growth potential, achieve developmental milestones without significant delay, and to prevent possible health concerns in the future.
