Hypothyroidism Disease Summary

Overview

Hypothyroidism is a common endocrine disorder wherein the thyroid does not make enough thyroid hormone.
Signs and symptoms are variable but would usually include are fatigue, weight gain, cold intolerance, constipation and dry skin.
The diagnosis of hypothyroidism involves measuring serum thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) and serum thyroxine (FT4).
Levothyroxine is the first-line agent for treatment of hypothyroidism.
