Laboratory Tests and Ancillaries
Hyponatremia_DiagnosticsLaboratory evaluation should include a complete metabolic panel, including serum glucose, sodium, potassium, chloride, bicarbonate, and urea levels. Urinary sodium and creatinine levels should also be obtained to allow calculation of serum osmolality and the fractional excretion of sodium. Additional tests may be performed to rule out other potential causes of hyponatremia, including thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), urinary uric acid, adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), plasma cortisol, and brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) levels.
