Contents
Per 625 tab Amoxycillin trihydrate 500 mg, K clavulanate 125 mg. Per 1 g BID tab Amoyxcillin trihydrate 875 mg, K clavulanate 125 mg. Per 156 mg/5 mL granules for susp Amoxycillin trihydrate 125 mg, K clavulanate 31.25 mg. Per 457 mg/5 mL BID Forte granules for susp Amoxycillin trihydrate 400 mg, K clavulanate 57 mg
Indications/Uses
Treatment of acute otitis media, sinusitis, pneumonia, skin & soft tissue infections & UTI caused by β-lactamase-producing strains of bacteria.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Tab Adult & childn >12 yr Severe infections 1 tab bd. BID tab Adult & childn >12 yr 1 tab db. Granules for oral susp 25-50 mg/kg/day in divided doses 8 hrly. Childn 7-12 yr (18-40 kg) 10 mL 8 hrly, 1-6 yr (10-18 kg) 5 mL 8 hrly. BID Forte granules for oral susp Childn 7-12 yr (22-40 kg) Severe infections 22-40 kg) 10 mL 12 hrly. Mild to moderate infections 5 mL 12 hrly. 2-6 yr (13-21 kg) Severe infections 5 mL 12 hrly. Mild to moderate infections 2.5 mL 12 hrly.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/ meals for better absorption & to reduce GI discomfort.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to penicillins. Previous history of penicillin-associated jaundice or hepatic dysfunction. Infectious mononucleosis.
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins. History of allergy eg asthma, eczema, hay fever, hives, bleeding disorders. History of GI disease especially ulcerative colitis, regional enteritis or antibiotic-associated colitis. Renal or hepatic impairment. Prolonged use. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances, vag itch, soreness & discharge, hepatic effects, hypersensitivity reactions. Convulsions may occur w/ renal impairment or in those receiving high doses. Transient leucopenia, thrombocytopenia, haemolytic anaemia.
Drug Interactions
May prolong bleeding time & PT w/ anticoagulants. Reduce efficacy of OCs. Increase likelihood of allergic reaction w/ allopurinol especially in hyperuricaemic.
