Clopidogrel bisulfate
Prevention of atherothrombotic in adults suffering from MI, ischaemic stroke or established peripheral arterial disease, non-ST segment elevation acute coronary syndrome, ST segment acute MI, & thromboembolic events in atrial fibrillation in combination w/ aspirin.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & elderly 75 mg single dose daily. Non-ST segment elevation acute coronary syndrome Initially 300 mg single dose, continued at 75 mg once daily in combination w/ aspirin 75-325 mg daily. ST segment elevation acute MI Initially 300 mg single dose, continued at 75 mg once daily in combination w/ aspirin & w/ or w/o thrombolytics. Atrial fibrillation 75 mg single dose daily in combination w/ aspirin 75-100 mg daily.
May be taken with or without food.
Hypersensitivity. Severe hepatic impairment. Active pathological bleeding eg, peptic ulcer or intracranial haemorrhage. Childn.
Special Precautions
Blood cell count determination. Increased risk of bleeding from trauma, surgery or other pathological conditions. Concomitant w/ aspirin, heparin, glycoprotein IIb/IIIA inhibitors, NSAIDs including Cox-2 inhibitors. Discontinue 7 days prior surgery. Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura, recent ischaemic stroke (w/in 7 days). Renal & hepatic impairment.
Adverse Reactions
Haematoma, epistaxis, GI haemorrhage, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, dyspepsia, bruising, puncture site bleeding.
Drug Interactions
Reduced levels w/ strong or moderate CYP2C19 inhibitors.
ATC Classification
B01AC04 - clopidogrel ; Belongs to the class of platelet aggregation inhibitors excluding heparin. Used in the treatment of thrombosis.
