Dexamethasone Na phosphate (equiv to dexamethasone phosphate 0.1%), neomycin sulfate 0.5%
Indications/Uses
Treatment of inflammatory conditions of the anterior segment of the eye or external ear complicated by infections caused by organisms sensitive to neomycin.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Eye drops Initially 1-2 drops 1-2 hrly. When a favourable response is observed, reduce dosage to 1 drop 4 hrly, later further reducing to 1 drop tds-qds. Ear drops 3-4 drops into the aural canal bd-tds. When a favourable response is observed, reduce dosage gradually & eventually discontinue.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Acute herpes simplex, TB of the eye, fungal disease of eye, vaccinia, varicella & most viral disease of eye. Perforated eardrum.
Special Precautions
Glaucoma, optic nerve damage, defects in visual acuity, posterior subcapsular cataract formation & secondary infection on prolonged use. Thinning of cornea, perforation. Overgrowth of nonsusceptible organisms.
Adverse Reactions
Allergic local reactions, blurred vision.
