Indications/Uses
Treatment of depression.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adults Standard dose: 10 mg/day. May be increased to 20 mg/day. Elderly Max dose: 10 mg/day. Patients w/ liver disease Initially 5 mg/day for the 1st 2 wk. May be increased to 10 mg/day.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. SSRIs. Concomitant w/ pimozide, MAOIs. Pregnancy. Childn & adolescents <18 yr.
Special Precautions
Bleeding disorder, diabetes, heart disease, kidney & liver disease, bipolar disorder (manic depression), history of seizure or fits, restlessness. Electroconvulsive therapy. Suicidal behaviours & ideations. Concomitant w/ linezolid. Lactation. Elderly >65 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Decreased/loss of appetite, dry mouth, diarrhoea, nausea, sleeplessness, fatigue, sleepiness or drowsiness, yawning, increased sweating, sexual disturbances, agitation, confusion, anxiety, dizziness, hyponatraemia, rash, itching, patches of circumscribed swelling.
Drug Interactions
Bupropion; cimetidine, omeprazole, esomeprazole, lansoprazole; aspirin, NSAIDs; ticlopidine, warfarin; mefloquine; sumatriptan; tramadol; medicines affecting the chemicals in the brain; flecainide, propafenone, metoprolol; tryptophan; lithium; risperidone, thioridazine, haloperidol; imipramine, desipramine; St. John's wort; medicines for depression, anxiety, obessesive-compulsive & pre-menstrual dysphoric disorder.
