Indications/Uses
HTN.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Individualized dosage.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Liver disease (eg, hepatitis or cirrhosis). Patients taking MAOIs (eg, phenelzine, tranylcypromine, selegiline).
Special Precautions
Liver problems; angina; phaeochromocytoma, patients undergoing dialysis. Surgery requiring a general anaesth. Patients w/ fever. Blood transfusion. Drink enough water during exercise & hot weather. Regularly check BP. Check liver function & blood count w/in the 1st 12 wk. May affect ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Dizziness, lightheadedness, drowsiness, headache, weakness. Ongoing weakness, fever shortly after initiation (eg, w/in the 1st 3 mth), jaundice, darker urine, pale stools, swelling of the feet or lower legs, nightmares, feeling strange or depressed, signs of frequent infections, bleeding or bruising, signs of anaemia, exercising & tingling or numbness of the hands or feet, itchy skin rash, slow heart beat or pulse, worsening of angina, larger breast than normal especially in men.
Drug Interactions
Other antihypertensive drugs; lithium; Fe supplements & multivit containing Fe; MAOIs (eg, moclobemide, phenelzine, tranylcypromine); alcohol.
