Indications/Uses
Treatment for adult & childn for chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML) & Philadelphia chromosome positive acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (Ph-positive ALL). Treatment for adult for myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative diseases (MDS/MPD); hypereosinophilic syndrome (HES) or chronic eosinophilic leukaemia (CEL); dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP).
Dosage/Direction for Use
Based on the doctor's prescription. Childn Total daily dose must not exceed 800 mg. Can either be once daily dose or alternatively bd (½ in the morning, ½ in the evening).
Administration
Should be taken with food: Swallow whole w/ a large glass of water. For patients unable to swallow, dissolve tab in a glass of water or apple juice.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Not to be used for the treatment of GIST. Liver, kidney or heart problem. Concomitant use w/ levothyroxine. Severe fluid retention. Perform blood tests & weigh patients regularly. May affect ability to drive or use machines. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn w/ CML <2 yr, w/ Ph-positive ALL; w/ MDS/MPD, DFSP & HES/CEL.
Adverse Reactions
Rapid wt gain/severe fluid retention; signs of infection eg, fever, severe chills, sore throat, mouth ulcers; unexpected bleeding or bruising.
Drug Interactions
OTC drugs (eg, paracetamol), herbal medicines (eg, St. John's Wort). Medicines that prevent formation of blood clots.

L01EA01 - imatinib ; Belongs to the class of BCR-ABL tyrosine kinase inhibitors. Used in the treatment of cancer.
