Doxycycline monohydrate
Indications/Uses
Treatment of acne. Other bacterial infections sensitive to doxycycline.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 100-200 mg/day. Childn >8 yr 4 mg/kg/day. Treatment of acne 100 mg/day during 10-15 days, then 50 mg/day.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Take w/ a full glass of water & remain upright for at least 30 min. Take w/ food or milk if GI irritation occurs.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Association w/ retinoids. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <8 yr.
Special Precautions
Avoid sun/UV exposure during treatment due to risk of photosensitization.
Adverse Reactions
Teeth discoloration & insufficient development of the enamel in childn <8 yr. Nausea, stomach problem, diarrhea; hives, itching, cutaneous eruptions; photosensitization; hyperazotemia.
