Contents
Per 600 mg powd for inj Amoxicillin 500 mg, clavulanic acid 100 mg. Per 1.2 g powd for inj Amoxicillin 1 g, clavulanic acid 200 mg
Indications/Uses
Short-term treatment for upper & lower resp tract, GUT, skin & soft tissue, bone & joint infections.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn >12 yr 1.2 g every 8 hr, may be increased to every 6 hr. Childn 3 mth-12 yr 30 mg/kg every 8 hr, may be increased to every 6 hr, 0-3 mth 30 mg/kg every 12 hr, may be increased to every 8 hr thereafter. Moderate renal impairment (CrCl 10-30 mL/min) 1.2 g IV stat followed by 600 mg IV every 12 hr. Severe renal impairment (CrCl <10 mL/min) 1.2 g IV stat followed by 600 mg IV every 24 hr. Additional 600 mg IV may need to be given during & at end of dialysis.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to penicillin or other β-lactams. Penicillin-associated jaundice or hepatic dysfunction.
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity to penicillins or cephalosporins. Overgrowth of nonsusceptible organisms. Cholestatic jaundice; erythematous rashes associated w/ glandular fever. Ensure adequate fluid intake & urinary output during high doses. Na-restricted diet. Severe hepatic dysfunction. Renal impairment. Avoid use during pregnancy. Lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Diarrhoea, indigestion, nausea, vomiting, mucocutaneous candidiasis; vag itching, soreness & discharge; moderate & asymptomatic rise in AST &/or ALT & alkaline phosphatase; urticarial & erythematous skin rashes; inj site thrombophlebitis.
Drug Interactions
Prolonged bleeding & prothrombin time w/ anticoagulant therapy. Reduced efficacy of OCs. Decreased renal tubular excretion by probenecid. Increased allergic skin reactions w/ allopurinol.
