Enalapril maleate
Indications/Uses
Listed in Dosage.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Essential HTN Initially 10-20 mg daily. Maintenance: 20 mg once daily. Max: 40 mg daily. Renovascular HTN Initially ≤5 mg. Maintenance: 20 mg once daily. Heart failure/asymptomatic LVD Initially 2.5 mg. Maintenance: 20 mg daily. Concomitant diuretic therapy in HTN Discontinue diuretic 2-3 days prior to initiation of therapy. If not possible, initial dose should be ≤5 mg. Renal impairment Initially 2.5-10 mg depending on renal status.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Angioneurotic edema, hereditary or idiopathic angioedema.
Special Precautions
Vol-depleted patients. Severe degrees of heart failure, aortic stenosis or hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, renal dysfunction. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn.
Adverse Reactions
Dizziness, headache, fatigue, asthenia, hypotension, syncope, nausea, diarrhea, muscle cramps, rash & cough.
Drug Interactions
Antihypertensives, K supplements, K-sparing diuretics or K-containing salts. NSAIDs, lithium.
