Indications/Uses
Severe keratitis in adult patients w/ dry eye disease. Severe vernal keratoconjunctivitis (VKC) in childn from 4 yr through adolescence.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Severe keratitis in dry eye disease Adult 1 drop once daily to affected eye(s) at bedtime. Reassess treatment at least every 6 mth. Severe VKC Childn from 4 yr 1 drop qds to affected eye(s), may be maintained or decreased to 1 drop bd once control is achieved. Reassess treatment at 4 mth.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Active or suspected ocular or peri-ocular infection. Ocular malignancies or premalignant conditions.
Special Precautions
History of ocular herpes, varicella-zoster, or vaccinia virus infection. Glaucoma; active orofacial herpes simplex infection. Remove contact lenses before instillation & reinsert at wake-up time. Administer at least 15 min apart if >1 topical ophth product is used. May cause eye irritation due to cetalkonium Cl. Perform regular eye exam every 3-6 mth if used >12 mth. Concomitant use w/ β-blockers & corticosteroids. May affect ability to drive & use machines. Not recommended in women of childbearing potential & during pregnancy. Lactation. Childn & adolescents <18 yr w/ severe keratitis; childn <4 yr & adults >18 yr w/ severe VKC.
Adverse Reactions
Instillation site & eye pain. Eyelid erythema & oedema, increased lacrimation, ocular & conjunctival hyperaemia, blurred vision, reduced visual acuity, eye irritation, pain & pruritus; instillation site irritation, erythema & lacrimation, ocular discomfort, foreign body sensation in eyes; URTI; headache; cough.
Drug Interactions
Potentiated effects by corticosteroids.
