Dosage/Direction for Use
Duodenal & benign gastric ulcers 20 mg once daily for 4-8 wk. Dose may be increased to 40 mg once daily in severe or recurrent cases. Maintenance for recurrent duodenal ulcer 20 mg once daily. Reflux oesophagitis 20 mg once daily for 4-8 wk. Zollinger-Ellison syndrome Initially 60 mg once daily. Usual dose: 20-120 mg daily (>80 mg in 2 divided doses). H pylori eradication Triple therapy: Omeprazole 20 mg w/ amoxicillin 1 g & clarithromycin 500 mg, all bd for 1 wk or omeprazole 20 mg w/ clarithromycin 250 mg & metronidazole 400 mg, all bd for 1 wk or omeprazole 40 mg once daily w/ amoxicillin 500 mg & metronidazole 400 mg, both tds for 1 wk. Dual therapy: omeprazole 40 mg daily w/ amoxicillin 1.5 g daily in divided doses for 2 wk.
Should be taken with food: Take immediately before a meal.
Special Precautions
Exclude gastric malignancy before treatment. Severe hepatic disease. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Headache, GI disturbances.
Drug Interactions
Diazepam, phenytoin, drugs metabolized by liver oxidation, warfarin, digoxin, ketoconazole, clarithromycin.
