Ketoconazole
Indications/Uses
Systemic fungal infections, skin, hair & nail infections induced by dermatophytes &/or yeasts.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 1-2 tab daily. Vag candidiasis 2 tab daily for 5 days. Childn 3 mg/kg daily. Duration of treatment: Paracoccidioidomycosis, histoplasmosis, coccidioidomycosis, blastomycosis 3-6 mth. Skin mycoses induced by dermatophytes 4 wk. Oral & skin mycoses induced by candida 2-3 wk. Hair infection 1-2 mth. Nail infection 6-12 mth. Pityriasis versicolor 10 days. Systemic candidiasis 1-2 mth. Chronic mucocutaneous candidiasis Treat indefinitely.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Acute or chronic hepatic disease. Pregnancy & lactation.
Special Precautions
Adrenal insufficiency, achlorhydria.
Drug Interactions
Alcohol, antacids, H2-receptor antagonists, anticoagulants, INH, rifampicin, terfenadine, astemizole, cyclosporin, methylprednisolone, benzodiazepines, cisapride, lovastatin.
