Hydrocortisone Na succinate
Indications/Uses
Adrenocortical insufficiency & acute hypersensitivity reactions.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IV/slow inj/infusion 100-500 mg tid-qid in 24 hr. Childn ≤6-12 yr 100 mg, 1-5 yr 50 mg, ≤1 yr 25 mg.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to sulfites. Systemic fungal infections. Small pox vaccination or other immunization procedures.
Special Precautions
Corticosteroid may mask some signs of infections that may appear during their use. Prolonged use.
Drug Interactions
Barbiturates, carbamazepine, phenytoin, primidone, rifampicin. OCs, ritonavir, K-depleting diuretics eg, thiazides, furosemides, amphotericin B, xanthines, β2-agonists, NSAIDs, anticoagulants, antidiabetic drugs, antimuscarinics, salicylates.
