Co-amoxiclav (Amoxicillin & clavulanic acid). Per 375 mg tab Amoxicillin trihydrate 250 mg, clavulanate K 125 mg. Per 625 mg tab Amoxicillin trihydrate 500 mg, clavulanate K 125 mg. Per 1 g Amoxycillin trihydrate 875 mg, clavulanate K 125 mg. Per 156 mg/5 mL syr Amoxicillin trihydrate 125 mg, clavulanate K 31.25 mg. Per 228.5 mg/5 mL syr BID Amoxicillin trihydrate 200 mg, clavulanate K 28.5 mg. Per 457 mg/5 mL syr BID Forte Amoxicillin trihydrate 400 mg, clavulanate K 57 mg. Per 642.9 mg/5 mL syr ES Amoxicillin trihydrate 600 mg, clavulanate K 42.9 mg. Per 0.6 g vial Amoxicillin Na 500 mg, clavulanate K 100 mg. Per 1.2 g vial Amoxicillin Na 1 g, clavulanate K 200 mg. Indications/Uses
Upper & lower resp tract, GUT, skin & soft tissue infections & other infections eg, osteomyelitis, septicemia, peritonitis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Tab Mild to moderate infections Adult & childn >12 yr 375 mg tab tid or 625 mg tab bid. Severe infections 375 mg 2 tab tid or 625 mg tid or 1 g bid. Syr Childn 6-12 yr 10 mL tid, 1-6 yr 5 mL tid, 9 mth to 1 yr 2 mL tid. Syr BID Childn 7-12 yr 10 mL bid, 2-6 yr 5 mL bid. Syr BID forte Childn 7-12 yr 5 mL bid, 2-6 yr 2.5 mL bid. Syr ES 600 Childn 3 mth to 12 yr ≤40 kg 90 mg/kg/day bid for 10 days. Inj Adult & childn >40 kg 1.2 g 8 hrly, in serious infections 4-6 hrly or 2.2 g 4-8 hrly. Surgical prophylaxis 1.2 g at induction of anesth. Childn 3 mth to 12 yr 30 or 55 mg/kg 6-8 hrly, <3 mth 30 or 55 mg/kg 12 hrly (wt <4 kg) or 8 hrly (wt >4 kg).
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Best taken at the start of meals for better absorption & to reduce GI discomfort.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to penicillins.
Special Precautions
Severely impaired liver or renal function. Pregnancy, lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, indigestion, rash, urticaria.
Drug Interactions
OCs, probenecid, allopurinol.
