Indications/Uses
Meningitis, infections of bone, joints, skin, soft tissue & wound; genital infections including gonorrhea; renal & UTI; abdominal infections; sepsis; resp tract infections, particularly pneumonia.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn >12 yr 1-2 g. Severe infections 4 g. Infant & childn 20-80 mg/kg. Neonate 20-50 mg/kg. To be given once daily by IM/IV.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins.
Special Precautions
Penicillin-allergic patients. Renal impairment. Pregnancy.
Adverse Reactions
GI upsets, hematological changes, skin reactions, coagulation disorders, anaphylactoid reactions, agranulocytosis.
