Dosage/Direction for Use
Cryptococcal meningitis, candidaemia, disseminated candidiasis & other invasive candidal infections Adult Initially 400 mg then 200-400 mg once daily. Childn 6-12 mg/kg/day. Prevention of relapse of cryptococcal meningitis in AIDS patients At least 200 mg daily. Oropharyngeal candidiasis Adult 50 mg once daily for 7-14 days. Childn 3-6 mg/kg/day. Vag candidiasis 150 mg as a single oral dose. Prevention of fungal infection in patients w/ malignancy Adult 50 mg once daily while the patient is receiving chemo- or radiotherapy. Childn 3-12 mg/kg/day. Tinea pedis, corporis, cruris Adult & childn >4 wk 150 mg once a wk or 50 mg once a day for 2-4 wk (6 wk for Tinea pedis). Childn 2-4 wk Same dose as older childn 48 hrly, <2 wk Same dose as older childn 72 hrly.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Special Precautions
Pregnancy, lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, vomiting, headache, diarrhea.
Drug Interactions
Warfarin, phenytoin, rifampicin, theophylline.
