Na zirconium cyclosilicate
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult including the elderly Correction phase Initially 10 g tds as a susp in water. If still hyperkalaemic after 48 hr, continue regimen for additional 24 hr. When normokalaemia is achieved, follow w/ maintenance regimen. Maintenance phase Initially 5 g once daily, may be titrated up to 10 g once daily, or down to 5 g once every other day, as needed, to maintain normal K level. Max: 10 g once daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Monitor serum K as clinically indicated. Hypokalaemia & lengthening of QT interval may be observed. Na zirconium cyclosilicate may be opaque to X-rays. Specific attention should be paid to signs & symptoms related to intestinal perforation. Patients receiving dialysis; patients w/ serum K conc >6.5 mmol/L. Long-term exposure (>1 yr). Preferable to avoid during pregnancy. Childn & adolescents <18 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Hypokalaemia, oedema-related events.
Drug Interactions
Changes in solubility & absorption kinetics of co-administered medicinal products w/ pH-dependent bioavailability [eg, azole antifungals (ketoconazole, itraconazole & posaconazole), anti-HIV drugs (atazanavir, nelfinavir, indinavir, ritonavir, saquinavir, raltegravir, ledipasvir, rilpivirine), tyrosine kinase inhibitors (erlotinib, dasatinib, nilotinib)].
