Indications/Uses
Dosage/Direction for Use
Initially, 0.5 mg before meals. Max daily dose: 16 mg. If patients transferred from another oral antidiabetic, starting dose is 1 mg.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take w/in 30 min of meals.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Type 1 DM, severe hepatic disease, diabetic ketoacidosis. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <12 yr.
Special Precautions
Hepatic & renal disorders, major surgery, severe illness or infection. Childn <18 yr. Elderly >75 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Hypoglycaemia, stomach pain, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, constipation, visual disturbances, allergic reactions eg, rash, pruritus, erythema, swelling, difficulty in breathing, rapid heart beat, dizziness & sweating.
Drug Interactions
Gemfibrozil, clarithromycin, itraconazole, ketoconazole, ciclosporin, ocreotide, deferasirox, phenytoin, crabamazepine, phenobarbital, St. John's wort; MAOIs, nonselective β-blockers, ACE inhibitors, salicylates (eg, aspirin), NSAIDs, steroids (anabolic & corticosteroids), glucocorticoids, OCs, thiazides, danazol, thyroid hormones, sympathomimetics. Risk of hypoglycaemia w/ alcohol.
